Yamaha have long been known for making instruments which are really good as well as being really affordable. To prove just how good even our most affordable instruments are, we set ourselves the challenge to create a full band set up which would not only hold its own at any gig but would come in under a thousand pounds.
Here's the list of gear we chose:
Gigmaker Drum Kit including cymbals
Pacifica 012 guitar
RBX170 bass
MM6 synth
Katie Skilling is a singer/songwriter/musician, hailing from Leicester in England. Still just 19 years old, Katie has been performing for almost 5 years and has been writing songs since the age of 10. In addition to singing and playing acoustic guitar, Katie also writes on the piano as well as tackling smaller percussive instruments.
Since Christmas of 2003 Katie has been co- writing/working with producer Stephen Lironi (Hanson/Bon Jovi/Space + Black Grape) and manager, Diane Young (BBMak) and also actress/singer/writer Clare Grogan (Altered Images/ Gregory's Girl) and they have put together a demo of 6 tracks, which will be presented to record companies shortly.
Katie's acoustic rock/pop style is fused with folk/country and Jazz tinges taking inspiration from a range of artists, including - Bjork, Regina Spektor, Admiral Twin, The Beach Boys, John Mayer, The Smashing Pumpkins and Kate Bush.
After posting a clip of the song "52nd Street" from the early "In Silence" CD on her website, Katie began drawing interest from internet fans worldwide in addition to a strong local fan base.
Here's how it works
Each month, a great band will come to Yamaha HQ and record a song for the download using the Band for a Grand equipment. Each of them will be put on our website and at the end of the year you'll get the chance to vote for you favourite. At the end of the competition, the band with the most votes will win the chance to spend a day in a top flight recording studio and if you vote you could win £1000 worth of the Yamaha gear played!
